About
The 2022 JETSS STELLAR NSW Junior Novice Championships, is a skills based tournament open to all beginner and novice junior squash players which will be held on the weekend of 10-11th December 2022. The venue is MAASH Sports and Fitness, 1 Trafalgar Place Marsfield.
The event will have multiple divisions representing different skill levels. You can select the level you want to play, and there are 4 novice levels to choose from; they are Starter Novice, Improving Novice, Progressive Novice and Transitional Novice. There will be a separate Junior Open division for the elite junior players with SportyHQ rating from 1000 to 1350).
The tournament director will review the level that you select and adjust if required after contacting you. So don't worry if you did not select the right level initially.
This event provides the ideal opportunity for novice players to experience tournament conditions while competing against other players of similar standards, and not against state ranked elite level players.
You will have loads of fun, make new friends and play lots of squash.
ENTRY TO EVENT INCLUDES:
• Tournament shirt
• Coaching during matches
• Drink
• Goodies bag
• Trophies and prizes
EVENT FORMAT
• Matches are Point-A-Rally (PAR)
• Best of 5 games
• Each game will be first to 11
• Players are guaranteed a minimum of 3 matches
How do you know if you are a novice player? Which division/level should you select? Here are some descriptions to help your understanding:
STARTER NOVICE
• Player who does not have a SportyHQ rating
• Player who cannot consistently serve or return the serve
• Player who generally has rallies of less than 4 shots
• A player who may need modified rules EG: 2 serves, bigger service box, use Karakal big ball
IMPROVING NOVICE
• Player who has a SportyHQ rating of 200-450
• Player who can serve and return the serve relatively consistently
• Player who has rallies up to 10 shots but has great difficulty getting balls out of the back corners
PROGRESSIVE NOVICE
• Player who has a SportyHQ rating of 450 -700
• Player who can serve and return the serve consistently
• Player who can occasionally has rallies of more than 10 shots
• Player who can consistently get balls out of the back corners
• A player who is in contention for representative honours through Green Shield
• A player who is playing Bronze and silver events regularly
TRANSITIONAL NOVICE
• Player who has a SportyHQ rating of 700-1000
• A player who is now starting to play Silver and Gold events regularly
• A player who is on the threshold of state junior team selection
